Rajnath files nomination from
Haidergarh seat

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday filed his nomination papers from the Haidergarh Vidhan Sabha seat.

Singh, who was accompanied by state Bharatiya Janata Party unit president Kalraj Misra, filed four set of papers before the Haidergarh Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Vijay Bahadur Singh.

Earlier, he told reporters that he would start the election campaign from January 24.

Singh said terrorism would be an important issue in the elections, besides development. Law and order and development were directly linked with each other and both would be crucial issues in the polls, he added.

He said Ayodhya was a cultural issue for the party and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's 'sant yatra' had no link with the assembly polls.

The Nationalist Congress Party, too, announced the names of 84 candidates for the elections.

The party, which would contest the polls as part of the newly formed Nationalist Ekta Morcha comprising 12 parties, would field candidates for 86 seats, NCP state unit president Siraj Mehndi said.

The names of the remaining two candidates would be announced later, he said.

The Morcha, comprising the Samajwadi Janata Party, Janata Party and some others, would put up candidates on 224 of the 403 seats, he added.

Mehndi said the NCP's election manifesto would be released on January 30.
