Phoolan's husband to file nomination from Mirzapur

Slain MP Phoolan Devi's husband Umed Singh has decided to file his nomination from the Mirzapur assembly constituency of Uttar Pradesh. Phoolan had represented the constituency when she was alive.

"I am filing my nomination from Mirzapur on Wednesday," Singh said. However, he refused to say whether he was contesting as an independent or on a party ticket.

Singh, who had maintained till recently that he would not enter politics as his wife had become the victim of "political conspiracies", claimed that the "masses in Mirzapur want that I should complete the social work left by Phoolan. So I had to bow before their pressure".

Phoolan was shot dead in front of her official residence in New Delhi last year.
