Siege of mosque ends,
one militant killed

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Security forces shot dead one militant and arrested another to end the siege of a mosque in village Bamrood in Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

The militants, who took control of the mosque in the morning, fought an intense battle with the security forces till late afternoon when one of them was killed and the other arrested.

The arrested militant, identified as Rafique Ahmed, is critically injured and has been rushed to a nearby hospital.

Senior police officers said that though the mosque has been sanitised, combing operations are on in neighbouring areas. Initial reports had said there were three militants holed up in the mosque.

The militant killed in the gunbattle has been identified as Basheer Ahmed.
