Advani hands over list of 42 terrorists to Ashcroft

Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Wednesday handed over a list of 42 terrorists operating from Pakistan to US Attorney General John Ashcroft during their meeting in Washington, a TV news channel reported.

The list includes the names of 20 terrorists given by India to Pakistan recently and also features 14 leaders of Afghanistan's erstwhile Taliban regime, the Aaj Tak channel reported from Washington.

Those who figure in the list include Dawood Ibrahim, wanted in connection with 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar, Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin as well as seven Punjab terrorists, the report said, adding Advani had also given documentary proof about the activities of those in the list.

The Taliban leaders include Maulvi Noor Mohammed Saqib who was the chief justice in the erstwhile Taliban regime, his deputy Maulvi Musajam -- both believed to be living in Peshawar -- as well as seven ministers of the Taliban set-up.

On Thursday, Advani will meet with National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice at the White House with the possibility of President George W Bush dropping in for a chat.

The home minister arrived in Washington on Tuesday for a hectic six days of heavy engagements in Washington and New York.
