VDC member, kin gunned down by militants in Jammu region

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Three members of a family were gunned down by militants at Pogal Paristan village in the Jammu region on Sunday evening.

According to police sources in Srinagar, Village Defence Committee member Baldev Singh, his wife Sharda Devi and a relative died on the spot.

Four other relatives who were injured in the incident were rushed to a hospital, they said.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has given arms to VDC members to enable them to protect their villages from terrorist attacks.
