Even as both Indian and Pakistani officials continued to give a contradictory version of the meeting between Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and President Pervez Musharraf, a clear idea of what transpired between the two leaders on Sunday morning was emerging.
According to officials, the two leaders met at a side room of the Birendra International Convention Centre in Kathmandu immediately after the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation summit got over on Sunday afternoon.
National Security Advisor Brajesh Mishra discussed with External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and Pakistan Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar a few points, which were jotted on a piece of paper.
According to officials who were present at that time, Vajpayee, Singh and Mishra went into a room, followed by the Pakistani president and his key aides.
The two sides then discussed the proposals for a few minutes. The aides walked out of the meeting first, and, after a couple of minutes, Vajpayee and Musharaf, too, emerged.
Though the prime minister denied that they conducted any substantial talks, the truth lies in that A4 size paper.
