After being taken by surprise by Pakistan President Gen Pervez Musharraf's handshake Prime Minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee on Saturday told the Pakistan President to follow up his gestures with action.
Deviating from his written speech, the prime minister told Pakistan not to allow its soil or the territory under its control to be used by terrorists to perpetuate mindless violence in India.
"I am glad President Musharraf extended his hand of friendship to India. I accepted it, but he must follow up his gestures with action by not allowing Pakistan or any territory under its control to be used by terrorists," he said.
"Speaking from experience, when I went to Lahore with a hand of friendship, we were rewarded with aggression in Kargil and the hijacking of an Indian Airlines aircraft."
"When we invited President Musharraf for talks, we were rewarded with the attacks on the Jammu and Kashmir assembly and the Indian Parliament."
