India denies Jaswant-Sattar meeting

Josy Joseph in Kathmandu

India has denied reports that External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Abdul Sattar met on Saturday afternoon informally to discuss the stand-off between the two countries.

"There has been no separate or substantive meeting between the two ministers. In the past few days they have met on several occasions in the context of SAARC," an external affairs ministry spokesman said.

There have been reports by some news organisations and informal claims by certain senior Pakistani officials that the two ministers met on Saturday after the SAARC summit's dramatic opening session.

India has been insisting that there wont be any bilateral consultations with Pakistan in Kathmandu.
