Foreign ministers of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation nations on Thursday finalised the 'Kathmandu Declaration' and a draft treaty of the South Asian Free Trade Agreement. They also discussed implementing the Convention on Terrorism.
The 22nd session of the council of ministers meeting of SAARC concluded with the adoption of the standing committee report and recommendations in the form of a report, which would be forwarded to the three-day seven-nation summit beginning on Friday.
"The meeting reviewed matters relating to intra-regional economic cooperation with special focus on SAFTA," SAARC media coordinator and Nepalese foreign ministry official Pushkar Rajbhandari said.
He said the ministers finalised the draft treaty of SAFTA and suggested a timeframe for the finalisation of the treaty. The issue of combating terrorism also drew the attention of the ministers, he added.
Rajbhandari said there was also an emphasis on implementing the Convention on Terrorism, which was adopted in 1987.
