Five militants were arrested and a possible tragedy averted with the timely detection of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during the period, an official spokesman said.
Militants ambushed an army convoy near Cement bridge in Baramulla, 55 km from Srinagar, and in the resultant encounter, a 15-year-old boy was killed and two security personnel wounded.
Militants first set off two blasts and then fired at the convoy, which was proceeding to Kupwara from Srinagar on Wednesday afternoon, the spokesman said.
He said the boy was identified as Abid Ashiq Dar, adding security forces cordoned off the area to track down the militants responsible for the ambush.
In another ambush, a BSF jawan and a civilian were killed at Dharam-Gool in Udhampur district.
Militants also ambushed a security patrol in Bufliaz area of Poonch district injuring a jawan.
The spokesman said two militants - identified as Shahid Adil and Janbaaz, both Pakistani nationals - were killed in an encounter with security forces in Handwara area of Kupwara district.
Some weapons, ammunition and explosives were recovered from the slain mercenaries.
