Fashion mogul Mounir Moufarrige on Monday said he had appointed Indian designer Ritu Beri as head of the ready-to-wear section at the house of Jean-Louis Scherrer.
The pretty 30-something lass from Delhi, who started her own label around ten years ago, will take over the section from chief designer Stephane Rolland, who will concentrate on Scherrer's haute couture creations. The two will try to revive the fading fortunes of the label, Moufarrige said.
She will show her first collection for Scherrer at the Paris ready-to-wear collections next month, he said.
Beri is currently the queen of the Indian fashion industry and her fans include Hollywood celebrities like Nicole Kidman. She is also the first Indian designer to present a couture collection in Paris.
A graduate of the National Institute of Fashion Technology in New Delhi, Ritu's styles often exploit rich traditional Indian craftwork and fabrics.
Moufarrige, the chief executive of France Luxury Group, took an interest in her two years ago, buying her company and promoting her work in Britain and the United States.
The move is seen as part of a wider plan to develop the luxury and fashion labels run by his group, which was formed only three weeks ago in collaboration with Scherrer's former chief Francois Barthes.
