Three militants holed up in Kupwara mosque

Three Hizbul Mujahideen militants on Friday took refuge in a mosque following an encounter with BSF personnel in a village in Kupwara district, official sources said in Srinagar.

The encounter took place around 0900 hours when the security personnel confronted the militants during routine patrolling in Tutigund village, the sources said.

After trading fire with the BSF men, the militants entered the village mosque and fired on the advancing security personnel.

The sources said the security personnel did not retaliate but instead laid a cordon around the mosque.

BSF reinforcements and army personnel were rushed to the spot and the militants were asked to lay down arms, the sources said.

The militants, however, did not respond and instead took up positions inside the mosque.
