Farooq talks of retirement

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday indicated that he was keen to retire and that his son and Union Minister of State for External Affairs Omar Abdullah would be returning to state politics to take his place.

"It is time for him to serve his home state," Dr Farooq said while releasing the National Conference (NC) manifesto for the by-election to the Jammu parliamentary constituency.

"Omar Abdullah will actively participate in electioneering in the coming assembly poll. This will add to his comprehension about the broad spectrum of Jammu and Kashmir politics," he said.

The chief minister asked Hurriyat Conference leaders to contest the elections and asserted that there 'should be no doubt about the fairness of polls'.

"Let anyone from anywhere in the world monitor the elections," he added.
