Omar Abdullah's resignation accepted
December 24, 2002 02:19 IST
After months of suspense, Omar Abdullah's resignation as Union minister of state for external affairs has been accepted.
"The President, on the advice of the prime minister, is pleased to accept the resignation of Omar Abdullah, minister of state for external affairs, from the council of ministers," a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué said.
"I am glad. Now my complete focus would be towards the people of my state," Omar Abdullah said.
Ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir election, Abdullah, who took over as National Conference president from his father Farooq Abdullah, sought to relinquish his ministerial berth to concentrate on party work. The prime minister had then refused to accept his resignation.
However, even after the party's debacle, Omar had insisted on his resignation being accepted.
