Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed returned home on Tuesday from his first visit to New Delhi after taking over the reins of the administration in Srinagar.

The chief minister, who has pledged to leave no cause for militants to fight, sought assistance in power generation, development of railways and roads infrastructure and employment generation in his meetings with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his deputy Lal Kishenchand Advani.

Sayeed also met Information Technology Minister Pramod Mahajan and Railways Minister Nitish Kumar for pursuing various schemes pending with their ministries.

Mahajan assured Sayeed that mobile telephone services would be introduced in Jammu and Kashmir by April next year.

The chief minister managed to extract an assurance of help from the Centre to meet the daily overburden of Rs 10 million in providing power supply during winters when there is a severe shortage of electricity.
