One armyman was killed and eight critically wounded in an explosion at Kachdora village, eight km from the south Kashmir town of Shopian in Pulwama district on Tuesday evening.
Police said the blast occurred when a private bus carrying soldiers of the 44 Rashtriya Rifles hit a landmine.
"Eight armymen, including a captain and a JCO [joint commissioned officer], received serious injuries. They have been rushed to Srinagar for treatment. Their condition is very serious," said a police officer in Pulwama on condition of anonymity.
He said that the driver and the conductor of the bus were also critically wounded.
Police sources said that militants also opened fire on the bus carrying the soldiers.
As the news of the blast reached Shopian, senior army and police officers rushed to the spot. Security forces cordoned off the area.
No one has yet admitted responsibility for the blast.
