J&K highway re-opens, stranded vehicles cleared

The landslide on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, which has claimed one life and had blocked all vehicular movement on Sunday, was re-opened for vehicular traffic on Monday, an official for the Border Roads Organisation said.

The BRO, which maintains the major highways in Jammu and Kashmir, cleared the landslides at three places on the highway between Batote and Ramsu today, the official said.

Over 1000 Amarnath pilgrims, who were stranded at Batote since Sunday, reached Pahalgam on Monday evening, he said.

Over 30 companies of security personnel on election duty in J&K and some other goods vehicles, which were stranded due to the landslides, have begun moving towards Jammu, the spokesman added.
