"These dates have been taken in haste as lot more was still required to be done to persuade various groups to participate in the assembly poll," Sayeed said, while addressing a public meeting at Bishnah village in Jammu district, on Friday evening.
He criticised the Election Commission for the 'hasty announcement' before 'building the confidence of voters'.
Contending that the J&K election is not just the 'question of forming a government', he said the 'hasty step' could lead the Centre to lose the 'golden opportunity' to restore the 'confidence (of the people) in the democratic process'.
"Despite making claims that the election would be held in a free and fair manner, the government has not spelled out any measures towards these for last two years," he said, adding 'the imposition of Governor's rule was imperative to ensure smooth, fair and free election in the state'.
