Militants kill two National Conference leaders in Kashmir

Militants shot dead two block presidents of the ruling National Conference party in south Kashmir on Friday night, official sources said.

Ali Mohammad Dar was killed at Kuchipora in the Qazigund area of Anantnag district, while Ghulam Hassan Bhat was killed inside his Zainapora residence in the Shopian area of Pulwama district.

Security forces immediately cordoned off Kuchipora and Zainapora villages to track down the militants.

With none of the militant outfits claiming responsibility, the police suspect the involvement of Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen.

The Jamiat in a recent statement had said, "We have formulated the Al-Jabbar regiment to eliminate National Conference leaders and activists to disrupt the forthcoming election in the state," claiming that the 'regiment had killed over 12 party activists during the past few weeks'.
