The Andhra Pradesh high court on Thursday adjourned the hearing of a writ petition filed by the Pakistani wife of Mohammed Jaweed Azmath seeking extension of visa.
Azmath, a Non-Resident Indian, was initially detained in the US on suspicion of having links with the September 11 attackers, and later arrested for credit card fraud.
After the counsel for the Indian government failed to inform the court about the fate of the visa extension application of Tasleem Murad, Justice V V S Rao adjourned the hearing till August 5.
During an earlier hearing on July 22, the judge had given a week's time to the Indian government to inform the court what decision it had taken on Tasleem's application.
When the matter came up again on July 30, the Centre and the Andhra Pradesh government found themselves at loggerheads with the former claiming that it had not received the application and the latter maintaining that it had already forwarded the application.
The court was informed by Tasleem's counsel that she had applied for extension of visa till May 2004. She had filed the petition last month challenging the orders of the state government asking her to leave India as her year-long stay visa had expired.
