NDA govt may not be endangered even if TDP withdraws support

Even if the TDP withdraws support, the BJP-led NDA will not lose its majority in the 542-member House.

Without TDP, NDA will have a strength of 279, which is eight more than the half-way mark of 271.

However, a TDP decision may provoke other allies like the Trinamool Congress (9 MPs) and the four-member Lok Jan Shakti Party, which have demanded removal of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, to withdraw their support.

The Janata Dal-United and the Samata Party are divided on the matter.

Interest is also centred around the stand the 12-member DMK and the AIADMK will adopt.

The DMK will be under pressure to support the NDA to prevent the AIADMK from cosying up to the alliance.

The NDA can also count on the BSP (13 MPs), which is understood to be favouring a quid pro quo with the BJP on government-formation in Uttar Pradesh.
