Privilege motion against Jaya, Ponnaiyan

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam members in the Tamil Nadu assembly on Wednesday gave a notice for a privilege motion against Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and Finance Minister C Ponnaiyan for 'misleading' the House on the Cauvery issue on Tuesday.

Speaker K Kalimuthu told the state assembly that the motion was under his consideration and he would give his ruling after going through the records.

Jayalalithaa said that she had already accepted she was wrong 'on some points' made on Tuesday.

"To err is human," she said, adding she was prepared to face the motion.

Meanwhile, DMK President M Karunanidhi demanded an apology from Jayalalithaa for giving 'false' information in the state assembly.

Jayalalithaa had alleged that Karunanidhi had withdrawn a case on the Cauvery dispute from the Supreme Court in 1971 after he struck a deal with the late Indira Gandhi on withdrawing the aerial spraying and wheat scandal cases against him.

Karunanidhi said on Wednesday that the people of the state knew 'fully well' who betrayed the state on the Cauvery issue.
