11 killed, militants set on fire SFC depot in J&K

Eleven people, including four militants and three members of a family, were killed in Jammu and Kashmir, where militants set ablaze a State Forest Corporation depot since Wednesday night, an official spokesman said on Thursday.

A top Hizbul Mujahideen militant was arrested and four militant hideouts smashed by security forces, who seized a big cache of arms, including 27 kilograms of RDX and three missiles, in the state during the period, the spokesman said.

A group of militants barged into the house of a surrendered militant, Mohammad Shafi Gori, at Babapora village in Baramulla district on Wednesday night, set off two grenades and opened heavy fire killing Gori, his wife, sister and a friend, the spokesman said.

Gori was self-styled district commander of Tehreek-e- Jehad-i-Islami and after his surrender, joined counter-insurgent Ikhwan group and was instrumental in several successful operations against active militants in the area.

Militants also killed an alleged informer of security forces, who was abducted from Yachkote village in Badgam district, on Wednesday night, he said.

The body of a government employee was recovered from Dachan-Marwah in Doda district on Wednesday. Two Lashkar-e-Tayiba militants, identified as Umer Bhai and Fahad Bhai, both residents of Pakistan, were killed in an encounter with the army at Mohanpora village in Anantnag district on Wednesday night, he said.

A jawan and a counter-insurgent were also injured in the encounter. Another militant was killed at Duraswani in Kupwara on Thursday.
