VHP should mind its business: Abdullah

Hitting out at the Vishwa Hindu Parishad for demanding his resignation, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday brushed aside their demand and asked them to 'mind their business'.

"I don't know on what basis they are demanding my resignation. They don't even know the kind of situation in the state and yet they comment. It is better that they mind their own business," Abdullah said after meeting Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He made these remarks while reacting to the demand by VHP international general secretary Praveenbhai Togadia for his resignation and an accusation that his government was conspiring with 'jihadi terrorists' to force Hindus out of Jammu.

He regretted that the VHP leaders were raising such a demand and said, "Kinare pe beth ke sabi log tamasha dekhte hai, hum to is aag mein har roz jalte hai (People sitting on fence can watch us burn in this fire -- militancy -- every day, but we burn in it)." Abdullah said.

"Instead of sitting in a bungalow, these leaders should be sent to the border to have a feel of the situation and I am sure after that they will never even comment about Kashmir, leave alone seek my resignation," Abdullah said.

"I think these people are a bit nervous as there has been no communal clash in the state," Abdullah said.

He added, "It would be better for these leaders to either help in fighting militancy or keep quiet."
