Al Badr, JuM banned under POTA

Al Badr and Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen, Pakistan-based terrorist organisations operating in Jammu and Kashmir, were on Monday banned under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

The ban comes into force with immediate effect, official sources said in Delhi.

According to official sources, the terrorist organisations 'banned earlier under section 18 of the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO)' include the Lashkar-e-Tayiba, Hizbul Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Mohammad, Al Umar Mujahideen (all from Jammu and Kashmir), United Liberation Front of Asom, National Democratic Front of Bodoland, People's Liberation Army, National Liberation Front of Tripura (all from the northeast), Babbar Khalsa, Khalistan Commando Force (Punjab), People's War Group and the Deendar Anjuman.

POTA is the bill that replaced POTO.
