JKLF acting chairman Javid Mir detained

Javid Ahmad Mir, deputy of detained JKLF chairman Yasin Malik, was on Monday taken into 'preventive custody' by the police to foil the organisation's plan to hold demonstrations in Srinagar to highlight the 'deteriorating condition' of the arrested separatist leader.

Malik is on a hunger strike since his arrest.

Mir, who led a series of demonstrations in Srinagar soon after Malik's arrest on March 25, was picked up by police from the office of Hamid Blood Bank run by the JKLF in Abi Guzar locality, police said.

Before his arrest, Mir accused Hurriyat Conference leaders of maintaining a 'meaningful silence' on Malik's arrest and demanded an explanation from the separatist body.

Meanwhile, residents of Maisuma locality in Srinagar observed a strike to protest what the JKLF termed as the 'deteriorating condition' of Malik in custody. The JKLF leader is a resident of Maisuma.
