Security forces shot dead an area commander of the Hizbul Mujaheedin outfit in an encounter in Chirala forests in Poonch district, a defence spokesman said on Saturday.
He said the security forces, acting on specific information, launched an operation in Chirala forests around 1500 hours on Friday.
When the militants saw the advancing troops, they fired upon them. In the retaliatory action, one HM commander, identified as Danish alias Prince, who was dressed in women's clothing, was killed, he said.
The other militants abandoned their leader and fled, he said, adding one AK rifle with two magazines and some rounds, one wireless set and some incriminating documents were recovered from the slain militant.
