Cong seeks Advani's intervention in Rashid case

The Congress on Wednesday sought immediate intervention of Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani in the "uncalled and inhuman" action taken by the Jammu and Kashmir government against Shaikh Abdul Rashid, an "honest and sincere" officer of the state police.

"The action against a disciplined officer is "uncalled, inhuman and lamentable", party spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters, and requested Advani to intervene in the matter, lest it had a demoralising effect on the serving officers fighting militancy in the state.

Stating that senior officers had spoken highly about Rashid, the Baramulla Jail Superintendent, he said the manner in which he was being treated was "shocking".

Rashid, who was allegedly harassed and humiliated by the Delhi police during his visit to the capital in July, has reportedly been shifted to Leh.
