A special court has ordered a suo motu inquiry into the alleged funding of Ganpati festivities by underworld don Chhota Rajan in Bombay.
The inquiry was ordered on August 31 by designated judge A P Bhangale who acted upon a report published in The Times of India newspaper on August 24.
The report said that the Sahyadri Krida Mandal at Tilak Nagar in Chembur, which every year mounts one of the most lavish Ganpati festival celebrations in the city, is funded by Rajan.
The report said Chhota Rajan this year spent Rs 3 million on erecting a replica of Mysore Palace in which the mandal's Ganpati idol was installed.
The judge has ordered the concerned assistant commissioner of police to conduct the probe and file a report before September 9.
