Massive explosion in Srinagar, 1 killed, 7 injured

One passenger was killed and seven seriously injured on Monday afternoon in a massive explosion in a Jammu bound bus in the main Batmallo bus station in uptown Srinagar.

The police said that following the explosion the bus caught fire and was completely gutted.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot. They said that passengers waiting in the station started running towards the entrance soon after the explosion, resulting in a stampede.

The injured have been shifted to a hospital.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion.

Meanwhile, a police constable, identified as Bilal Ahmed, was shot down by motorcycle bound militants just outside the bus station minutes before the explosion.
