Eight Pakistani soldiers killed in firing, shelling along LoC

Eight Pakistani soldiers were killed in heavy gunfire and shelling between Indian and Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch, Jammu and Rajouri sectors since Friday night, defence sources said in Jammu on Saturday.

Pakistani troops resorted to heavy mortar shelling accompanied by indiscriminate firing at Kerni, Bhimbergati, Gambhir, Mendhar, Noushera, Laam, Bhawani, Sunderbani, Krishnagati, Pallwanwala and Balakote areas since Friday night, they said.

Indian troops retaliated and in the exchange of fire eight Pakistani soldiers were killed, sources said, adding five of Pakistani bunkers, opposite Balakote, Laam and Bhawani areas, were also damaged.

There was no loss of life on the Indian side, the sources said.

The shelling and firing forced some villagers in border areas to shift to safer areas, the sources added.
