India would lodge a protest with the United Nations for the controversial statement of the general heading the observer force in Jammu and Kashmir in which he termed the state as a "tormented country".
"We will soon write to Secretary General Kofi Annan in this direction," Minister of State for External Affairs Omar Abdullah told reporters in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Taking strong exception to the UN Chief Military Observer Major General Herman Loidolt's statement, the minister said, "He has no business to meddle with the internal affairs of our country. We will lodge a strong protest with the UN."
Stating that India never gave much importance to the United Nations Military Observer Group, he said they should perform their duty and should not "mess with anything else".
Stating that as of now India did not contemplate to cross the Line of Control, Abdullah said, "But we, as a sovereign nation, reserve every right to protect the boundaries and people of our country."
India's maintenance of maximum restraints "should not be taken as cowardice", he said, adding that the country reserved military option in case of continuance of aiding and abetting of terrorism in J&K.
"India is losing patience due to attacks by Pakistani terrorists in which Hindus, Muslims and other innocent people are being killed," Abdullah said. "It will be dangerous for Pakistan," he warned.
