With the recovery of six more bodies from the battered Jammu and Kashmir state assembly complex on Tuesday, the death toll in the massive car bomb explosion of Monday has risen to 35.
Seventy others are undergoing treatment in various hospitals.
Police confirmed that bodies of two missing senior officials of the state assembly were recovered from the gutted portion of the complex.
Bodies of Ghulam Mohammad Khan, deputy secretary of the legislative council, Abdul Quyoom, under secretary of the council, and two cops of the state security were recovered during the search operation.
State Director General of Police A K Suri said the two Fidayeen militants, who had managed to gain entry into the assembly complex after the explosion, were shot dead by the security forces late on Monday night after a five-hour long gun battle.
"In all there were three militants involved in the explosion, and later firing," Minister of State for Home Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy said.
Search operations by the security forces were still continuing in the complex at the time of filing this report.
The Jammu and Kashmir assembly speaker, on the request of the Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, has already extended the session by two days.
