Border Security Force personnel gunned down twelve Pakistani intruders along the International Border in Kathua district of Jammu division on Wednesday, even as Indian and Pakistani troops continued to exchange fire, a BSF spokesman said in Jammu.
The personnel spotted a group of intruders trying to sneak into the Indian side via the Nanga border outpost of Kathua district, the spokesman said.
The intruders were asked to surrender by the BSF men, but they continued to advance towards the Indian side, forcing the troops to open fire, killing all of them, he said.
Simultaneously, Pakistani rangers opened heavy fire on Indian posts, he said, adding BSF troops retaliated and intermittent exchange of fire between the two sides was continuing in the area.
Light arms fire exchange between the BSF and Pakistani rangers also took place at some places along the IB in R S Pura, Samba and Akhnoor sectors, he said, and added there was no loss of life on the Indian side.
Some Pakistani currency and documents were been recovered from the slain intruders, whose identity was being ascertained, the spokesman said.
