Two top commanders of Al-Badr killed

In a major breakthrough, the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir police gunned down two top commanders of the Pakistan-based Al-Badr outfit in Srinagar on Wednesday, police said.

The outfit's self-styled operational chief, Hafiz Ahsan Ali, alias Nayeem, was killed along with divisional commander Syed Tulha Ahmad, alias Tamjeed, at Chaterhama on the outskirts of Srinagar.

While Ali was a resident of Peshawar, Tulha belonged to Karachi, they said, and described their killing as a "major blow" to the outfit and militancy in general.

An AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 60 rounds of ammunition, two grenades, 11 rifle grenades and a wireless set were recovered from the slain militants, they said.
