Prabhakar may seek anticipatory bail

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

The Uttaranchal police will send another team, led by a deputy superintendent, to arrest Manoj Prabhakar, a former cricket player who is allegedly involved in two cases of cheating and forgery in Halwani.

Uttaranchal Director General of Police A K Saran said that they had not received any compliance report from the Delhi police.

"Non-bailable warrants issued against Prabhakar by a Haldwani court are pending. The Delhi police told us that he had gone to Rajasthan to attend a seminar. But the Rajasthan police told us that Prabhakar had not come to Jaipur. We are not sure about his whereabouts," he said.

He said he was not aware whether Prabhakar had applied for anticipatory bail in a court in Delhi or Uttaranchal.

Prabhakar's wife told this correspondent that he would be back in Delhi in a few days.

She insisted that there were no arrest warrants against her husband.

When told that the director general of police had confirmed issuance of non-bailable warrants against the cricketer, she slammed down the telephone.

Sources close to Prabhakar said that he may move a court, seeking bail, before surfacing in Delhi.
