SC to hear PILs against Jaya on June 4

The Supreme Court would hear on June 4 two writ petitions challenging the swearing-in of J Jayalalitha as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu after her disqualification from contesting assembly elections.

The registry on Thursday posted the matter for hearing before a vacation bench, the two petitioners -- lawyers B R Kapur and Manohar Lal Sharma -- said.

The PILs have raised the question as to how a person disqualified from contesting elections could head a state government.
