Bail petition of Anita Sen rejected

The bail petition of Anita Sen, wife of a top Indian Police Service officer and absconding prime accused in the child adoption racket that rocked Andhra Pradesh recently, was rejected by a Hyderabad court on Wednesday.

Metropolitan Session Judge K C Bhanu refused to grant bail to Sen, the owner of an unlicensed adoption home 'Precious Moments', from where 61 infant girls were rescued by government officials in April following a surprise raid, as there was prima facie evidence of her involvement in the adoption scandal.

Sen, wife of Additional Director General (Recruitment) Swaranjit Sen, has been on the run ever since.

Following the filing of a criminal case against her for running an adoption home 'sans license', she moved a court last week seeking anticipatory bail to evade arrest.

The petition came up for hearing on Tuesday.

Following a complaint by project officer of the Department of Women and Child Welfare (DW&CW) on April 27, police charged Sen and her associate Sarita under Sections 175 (omission to produce documents), Section 188 (disobedience of orders promulgated by public servants), Section 342 (wrongful confinement), Section 420 (cheating), Section 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and Section 471 (using forged documents) of the Indian Penal Code, all read with rules of Government Order Ms No 16.

"We will arrest her as soon as we come to know about her whereabouts," additional DG (CID) Basith said.
