6 militants killed in J&K encounters

Four terrorists, three of them foreigners, belonging to the Pakistan-based Al-Badr, were killed in a fierce encounter with security forces at Lolab in north Kashmir early on Tuesday. A junior commissioned officer was injured in the encounter.

A report from Baramulla said the gun battle took place after security forces raided a terrorist hideout at Puthshahi Lolab.

A large cache of arms and ammunition, including three Kalashnikov rifles, 20 magazines and 160 rounds, was recovered near the site of the encounter. One house was damaged in the shootout.

Elsewhere in the state, two Hizbul Mujahideen men were killed while terrorists attacked a Border Security Force camp with rockets and Rs 700,000 were looted from a bank.

The Hizb men were gunned down in an encounter at Darah village of Rajouri district in Jammu region on Monday evening. Two Kalashnikov rifles, seven magazines, 62 rounds and two grenades were recovered from them. Two security personnel were injured in the clash.

In another incident, at least two persons were injured when gunmen fired upon a truck at Handwara on Monday evening.

Terrorists also fired a rocket towards a BSF camp at Tral in Pulwama district late on Monday night, but it exploded without causing any damage.

Gunmen looted Rs 700,000 from the Jammu & Kashmir Bank at Zainakote during the intervening night.

Police said ultras entered the house of Mohammad Abdullah at Handwara and kidnapped his son late on Monday night.

An official spokesman said four Central Reserve Police Force personnel -- Head Constable Abdul Qayoum, Constable Ghulam Haider, Constable Phool Singh and driver Constable Wazir Singh died in the attack by a Lashkar-e-Tayiba suicide squad on the CRPF camp at Wazirbagh. The attack ended late on Monday night.

Two terrorists were killed, and two Kalashnikov rifles, four magazines and an equal number of grenades were recovered from them. One civilian, Ghulam Ahmad Teli, was killed and another injured in the crossfire.

A Lashkar spokesman told local journalists that one of the three suicide squad members who had attacked the CRPF camp, Muslim Jarar, had contacted them on Tuesday morning from an unknown place. This, however, was denied by a CRPF spokesman.
