IA airbus involved in near miss
incident over Tamil Nadu

An incident of a near air-miss involving an Indian Airlines airbus and a Lufthansa cargo jet occurred 50-nautical miles east of Tamil Nadu's Salem district on Thursday, Directorate General of Civil Aviation sources said in Madras on Friday.

The incident, the sources said, occurred around 0700 hours (IST) when an Indian Airlines Airbus A-320, which left Madras for Kozhikode, was climbing to 31,000 feet, while the freighter jet of Lufthansa was ascending to 33,000 feet.

The Air Traffic Control at Bangalore reported a 'traffic resolutionary advise warning' because the separation between the two aircraft was only five nautical miles, they said.

The pilots of both the planes had informed the Bangalore ATC about the incident.

The Controller of Air Safety has commenced a preliminary investigation into the incident, they said.

The DGCA headquarters in Delhi was informed about the incident.
