Former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi was arrested on charges of corruption in the wee hours of Saturday. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president was arrested in connection with a case of alleged bribery in a road construction contract.
The case is being investigated by the Department of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.
Former chief secretary K N Nambiar has also been arrested.
In the scuffle outside Karunanidhi's house when the police arrived to arrest him, Union commerce minister Murasoli Maran was hurt, reports said.
Police are also gathered outside Madras Mayor M K Stalin's house to try and arrest him in connection with the case.
