Veerappan's surrender offer rejected

Tamil Nadu Director General of Police A Ravindranath on Thursday rejected the reported 'surrender offer' by sandalwood smuggler Veerappan.

"There is no need to accept the surrender offer of a forest brigand," he said.

"No negotiations with a forest brigand. We will nab him," Ravindranath asserted, but refused to specify a time frame.

He added that the police did not require the mediation of Tamil National Movement leader P Nedumaran to resolve the Veerappan issue.

Nedumaran had on Thursday demanded that the Special Task Force suspend operations against Veerappan and accept his surrender offer. He had also offered to mediate with the fugitive smuggler.
