SP, two cops hurt in grenade attack
in Srinagar

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Superintendent of Police Ramesh Jalla and two of his body guards were wounded in a grenade explosion at Hari Singh High Street in Srinagar on Friday morning.

The injured were immediately rushed to the hospital. The area was cordoned off and the Border Security Force conducted search operations.

Police sources said militants hurled a grenade at Jalla who was inspecting the area in uptown Srinagar.

Shops in some uptown areas were closed on Friday against alleged excesses by the security force. The strike call was given by an organisation called Islamic Students League.
