Former Chief Minister and DMK chief M Karunanidhi reacted immediately saying he and his colleagues were prepared for punishment if found involved in any case of corruption.
Citing a decision of the DMK government to replace soya powder with groundnut powder as children did not like the taste of soya, she told newspersons that powder made from groundnut oil cake was used in the children's food.
Even the groundnut oil cake powder purchased for the scheme was sold illegally in the black market as cattle-feed, she said.
Jayalalitha said this was discovered in a review meeting of the social welfare department and she had instructed officials to immediately stop inclusion of groundnut oil cake in the noon meal scheme.
This is the second probe ordered by the new government into the alleged misdeeds of the previous DMK government. The earlier one related to the alleged purchase of substandard rice for supply through the Public Distribution System.
