Blast rocks Indian consulate in Iran

A bomb explosion rocked the Indian consulate in Iran's Zahedan province bordering Pakistan on the night of June 14, an external affairs spokesman said in New Delhi on Monday.

The premises were damaged, but no diplomat or staff member of the consulate was injured.

Asked if there could be a Pakistani hand in the blast, the spokesman said New Delhi was in "close touch" with the Iranian authorities, who are investigating the matter.

The blast damaged the outer wall and window panes of the consulate, which is headed by V K Mahajan and has a five-member staff.

India has sought adequate security for Indian officials at Zahedan as also for protection of their property and the consulate premises.
