Four youths drowned, four others were injured and seven fishermen were reported missing in rain-related incidents in Maharashtra on Sunday even as heavy showers with gusty winds continued to lash parts of the state.
Four youths drowned while they were swimming in a pit full of rainwater at Vartak Nagar in Thane district near Bombay, police said. Fire Brigade personnel fished out their bodies.
In suburban Bhandup, four children of a family, including three girls, were injured when part of their house collapsed on Sunday morning.
The girls, aged between four and 15, and the boy (11) were taken to nearby Mulund General Hospital and discharged after being administered first aid.
A fishing trawler, 'Ganesh-Laxmi', with seven fishermen on board has been missing for the last three days, Maharashtra Fishermen's Action Committee office-bearer Bhai Bandarkar said.
Railway tracks and roads were submerged in low-lying areas. Heavy waterlogging on the tracks disrupted suburban train services. Central and Western Railway services were plying behind schedule while services on the Harbour line were suspended.
Weather Bureau officials said they have hoisted warning signal number three from Dahanu to Jaigad in coastal Konkan asking fishermen not to venture out into the seas.
