Army chief meets Advani

Army Chief General S Padmanabhan Friday met Union Home Minister L K Advani, to brief him on counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

Though officials did not reveal what transpired at the meeting, highly placed sources said security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra were also discussed.

In addition to paramilitary forces and local police to provide immediate vicinity cover to the pilgrims, army units had also been deployed at vulnerable mountain passes and stretches where militants could threaten the pilgrim route.
