Speight's former lawyer held

A correspondent in Suva

Fiji coup leader George Speight's former lawyer Navin Naidu was arrested in Lautoka on Wednesday morning.

A local radio station said that he was arrested for possession of fake documents.

The 'lawyer' had arrived in Fiji from the United States, to defend Speight, who is being charged for treason, following last year's coup.

Naidu had claimed he was a law graduate of the University of London and that he was a prosecutor of Freedom County in Washington.

Assistant Police Commissioner (Crime) Moses Driver told the radio that he was held after they made inquiries with Interpol and London University.

Naidu was to return to the United States in the morning.
