RJD MLA assaults Gaya SP

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RLD) MLA from Barachan in Bihar Bhagwati Devi on Wednesday said she assaulted Gaya superintendent of police at his official residence following an altercation over a complaint filed by her relatives in connection with a robbery incident.

The RJD MLA said her daughter-in-law Devrani Devi and other relatives had on Wednesday morning filed a complaint with the Kotwali police that their belongings and that of those traveling in more than 10 vehicles were looted by anti-socials in a road hold up near Chakan railway crossing on the Patna-Gaya road late on Tuesday night.

She claimed the Kotwali police refused to take up the complaint and referred the matter to the Chandraut police station as the place of occurrence was within the latter's jurisdiction.

Bhagwati Devi said she along with her daughter-in-law and son later went to the SP's residence and sat on a dharna demanding arrest of the robbers.

She alleged that the SP, Sankaran 'abused my son and assaulted him' forcing her 'to beat up the SP'.

Meanwhile, Sankaran when contacted, said the RJD MLA along with her relatives tried to force their entry inside his official residence when the guards refused to allow them to enter with the Tata Sumo keeping in view the Naxalite threat.

He said he himself rushed to the entrance and tried to persuade the MLA and others to cool down 'and tell me their problems'.

"But all unfortunate things happened afterwards," he said.

RJD supremo Laloo Prasad Yadav was believed to have intervened to sort out the matter.
