'Monkey man' strikes
on board Russian plane

A correspondent in New Delhi

A resident of New Delhi recently bit a stewardess aboard an Aeroflot airliner headed for Moscow.

The man's behaviour was so strange that it prompted the Russian newspaper Pravda to link the incident to the recent case of a 'monkey man' in the capital.

He was heavily guarded by security personnel and his arms and legs were tied after he bit the stewardess.

The man started behaving strangely immediately after the plane took off, passengers told the Russian media.

''He shouted something crazy and made indiscriminate assaults on other people. First, the stewardesses tried to subdue him, but he offered resistance, having bitten one of them. Other passengers interfered, and, finally, the trouble-maker was tied with adhesive and placed in the plane's rear compartment. On arrival at Sheremetyevo airport, he was detained by the local police,'' a passenger said.

The passenger was deported after his entry visa was found invalid.
